Nonprofit Spotlight: World Humanitarian Day

Less than 30 minutes to midnight here in Arizona, and I just learned that today is World Humanitarian Day, as declared by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

World Humanitarian Day falls on 19 August, the day when 22 aid workers were killed in a bombing at the UN headquarters in Baghdad in 2003. It's a day to pay tribute to all people affected by humanitarian crises and those who lost their lives in humanitarian service. It's a day to celebrate the spirit that inspires humanitarian work around the world.

According to the website, WHD aims to inspire action and make it clear that we stand in solidarity against conflict, torture, disease, famine, suffering and the poor leadership that often turns a blind eye. This day is a great opportunity to get involved and do something to help those who need it the most, whether locally or globally.

It's so important for us all to honor and celebrate nonprofit organizations and the work so many individuals do all over the world. It's not an easy fight, so thank you. If you'd like to learn more, visit worldhumanitarianday.org and follow #SHAREHUMANITY on social media.
