We may live in the middle of the desert, but there are so many swanky hotels, golf resorts, upscale shopping, and local dining options in the Valley of the Sun that we might even forget that. During the fall, winter and spring months, Metro Phoenix is a giant playground for snowbirds. In the summer, though, it quiets down considerably, since we basically hibernate while daily temperatures reach 110-115F. However, the scorching temps are also a great opportunity for locals to enjoy luxurious resorts at a much lower cost. From family discounts and offseason specials to Groupon and Living Social deals, there are several ways to enjoy the finer things in Phoenix without burning a deep hole in your wallet (trust me, I love a good deal.) Below you'll find three upscale resorts around the Valley that offer great amenities and money-saving deals for locals and out-of-towners alike.
WIGWAM
Located in the Southwest Valley, this 85-year-old hidden gem is dripping with Arizona history and character. This summer we had the opportunity to dine at their signature restaurant, Litchfield's (Groupon deal!) and their farm-to-table cuisine was simply decadent. The outdoors dining area was my favorite, and we'll have to go back in a couple of months when it cools down enough to dine outside. |
THE PHOENICIAN
Located in Scottsdale, the Phoenician exudes old town glamour. For R's first Father's Day, I purchased golf lessons with PGA instructor Michael Lamanna at the resort, and it was a really good deal! The Phoenician was named “North America’s leading golf resort” by the World Travel Awards, and ranked among the “top 75 golf resorts in America” by Golf Digest. The property was gorgeous, and best of all, right here in our backyard!

SANCTUARY ON CAMELBACK
Located at the base of Camelback mountains in Paradise Valley, Sanctuary definitely lives up to its name. I was recently invited to take a complimentary yoga class at the resort, and let me tell you - an intimate class led by a knowledgeable instructor, followed by a delicious (and quiet!) brunch was exactly what the doctor ordered for this sleep-deprived new mom. Sanctuary is not the most family-friendly resort around (no kids under 16 allowed at the main pool on weekends), but that is part of its appeal; it makes for the perfect romantic or girlfriends getaway spot. No doubt we are going back for a romantic sunset dinner overlooking Camelback and the Praying Monk rock formation.
